BIODIVERSITY DAYS IN THE SMOKIES
Biodiversity Days in the Smokies is a four-day period of activities celebrating the wonderous diversity of life in our Great Smoky Mountains National Park. This year we celebrate Biodiversity Days June 22 thru June 25 with some great presentations, hands-on activities and scientific surveys.
Please join us for the following family friendly events:
June 22 – Spruce-Fir Moss Spider! Join Glenn Taylor for this spectacular look at this amazing little Smokies endemic. We will gather at Twin Creeks Science Center from 1 p.m. till 3 p.m. for this wonderful presentation. Please call to register 865-430-4757.
June 23 - Scientific Illustrating with Deborah Blind! Join our good friend and artist extraordinaire to learn about illustrating all the wonderful biodiversity we see in our favorite national park. This four hour class is from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Please call to register 865-430-4757.
June 24 - Springtails- Hidden Jewels of the Smokies! Join Dr. Ernest Bernard for this presentation and collecting session on these tiny, important, soil critters. This will take place at Twin Creeks Science Center from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Please call to register 865-430-4757.
June 25 – Fern Foray-Field Survey! Join us for this on-going survey of the amazing ferns of the Smokies. Frondlers will meet at 9 a.m. at the Jakes Creek Parking area. Registration is required. Trial hiking required. Please call to register 865-430-4757.
