Information Page for Prionus laticollis (Broad-necked root borer)

The larvae of these large beetles feed on the roots of living trees and shrubs. They are considered a pest in fruit tree orchards and will also attack grape vine roots.

The males of this species will fly to lights during the Summer. The heavy-bodied female is flightless and may be found on the ground during the evening or early morning. She may carry 300 or 400 eggs.
